Monument Erected at Mt. Dosol to Commemorate 623 Fallen Marines

MHA worked closely with the Korean government to have the names of 623 US Marines and soldiers, who lost their lives in the battles of the "Punchbowl" area during the Korean War, permanently inscribed on the memorial monument on Mt. Dosol where some of the fiercest battles took place. The memorial was dedicated and unveiled on June 19, 2010 during Korea's annual remembrance celebration.

The inscription reads:

On the occasion 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, as a token of the deep friendship between the Republic of Korea Marine Corps and the United States Marine Corps, the names of 214 Korean and 623 American soldiers who died in the Battle of Dosolsan, the Battle of Punchbowl, and the Battle of Blood Hill have been engraved on this memorial monument. We want to remember their sacrifice and honor the courage and commitment of the Marine Corps.
